Change of Minor

Qatar University allows its undergraduate students the option to change their academic minor during their period of study. A change of minor may occur for a variety of reasons; you might find yourself unable to progress in your current program, or you might have simply discovered that it is not the right minor for you. No matter what the reasons be, if you are interested in changing your minor, but do not know where to start, use the following instructions to ensure making an informed decision:

Step 1: Explore your Minor Choices

Start by reviewing undergraduate minors offered at Qatar University
Review study plans of minors you consider selecting. Study plans may be available on the webpage of the department offering the program
Consult your academic advisor for more information on your best-fit program based on your academic progress so far
Evaluate the career opportunities of minors you are interested in by using the helpful tools offered by the Career Development Center

Step 2: Identify Application Requirements

There are two types of change of minor requirements; general requirements set by the University and specific requirements set by each college individually. In order to be eligible for change of minor, you are expected to satisfy both, unless otherwise stated.

General Requirements

You may change your minor given that this change should occur prior to completing 12 credit hours in the minor and 90 undergraduate earned hours in general
Change of minor is extremely competitive; satisfying the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission
In all cases, the sought college must approve change of minor applications, taking into consideration their transfer requirements and available capacity

Step 3: Be Aware of the Application Period

Application period for Fall 2025

Start of application for change of minor	09 February 2025
End of application for change of minor	20 February 2025
Announcing the change of minor decisions	Prior to the early registration period for Fall 2025

Step 4: Submit your Change of Minor Application

Active undergraduate students, students who withdrew from the semester as well as students who did not register in any courses for the semester may all apply for change of minor through the following steps:

To apply for change of minor, you should login to Banner Self Service Portal using your QU username and password and then follow the instructions provided in the guide Change of Minor Application Manual.

Once you submit an online change of minor application, you will immediately receive an automated email that confirms your successful submission and summarizes the details of your application
Successful submission of a change of minor application does not mean being accepted into the intended minor. After the application period is over, all applications go through an extensive review process in order for decisions to be made

Step 5: Expect a Notification of your Decision

After the application period is over, change of minor applications go through an extensive process of review and evaluation. Students should expect a notification regarding their decision through email prior to the early registration period of the coming semester.
